A ‘hard winter for Ireland,’ especially in the west.
It’s been a hard winter in Ireland; with boat club roofs being torn off in limerick where I live. Also in Limerick in early February the tide forgot to turn around and people on Kings Island had a very unwelcome visitor as the river Shannon rose to heights not seen for many a year.
Early February 2014 will stay in people’s memories in Ireland for all the wrong reasons.
Rossbeigh in Co Kerry was seriously damaged with the beach stones becoming weapons of mass destruction as they unleashed their fury destroying the children’s playground and letting the people of Kerry know; ‘this sea has power,’ and no-one can or is going to tame it.
Up the coast in Kilkee, walls built in the 19th century were holed and thrown out of shape by the wild Atlantic. It’s now mid-May and repairs have been minimal, with Kilkee waiting to see if funds will become available after Lahinch further up the coast; with damages appearing to be repaired there.
Winter 2013/2014 is truly one to remember for all the wrong reasons.
